Fiona Rice

Fiona read law at Oxford, qualified as a solicitor in 1986 and has worked as an international banking, asset, project and corporate finance lawyer in London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

She became a Partner of Allen & Overy, Singapore, having set up the office there with another colleague, with a focus on establishing the banking and projects practice. Fiona subsequently joined Linklaters as a Partner in 1997. Upon returning to London the following year, she took on the roles of both Departmental HR and Recruitment Partner and established the real estate finance group across the firm.

Seeking a change in direction, Fiona retired from the partnership and was recruited by management to take up the role of Consultant to pilot and develop Linklaters’ Client Relationship Review Programme, a role which involved comprehensive client liaison as well as team and individual coaching. It was this experience, along with her mentoring and coaching background as HR Partner, which led her to train as an Executive Coach.

Throughout her years as a lawyer, Fiona has sponsored, mentored, coached and lead numerous training programmes and workshops. She now works full time as an Executive Coach, Coaching Supervisor, Consultant, Trainer and Facilitator and also lectures at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School, including as Programme Director of the Women in Law Leadership Programme. She lives in London with her husband and four children.

She is also an accredited coaching supervisor (Henley Business School), an Accredited Mediator (London School of Mediation) and an accredited Mental Health First Aider (Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England). Coaching

“I have found my sessions with Fiona to be very helpful in developing my practice.  Fiona’s main quality is that she asks the right questions and listens, enabling her to give appropriate support and advice.  I felt that she really took the time to understand my business properly, which put her in a position to add real value to what I am trying to achieve.”

Partner, City Law Firm

“Things appear or show up for a reason. I met Fiona through a friend. She came to our coaching sessions with elegance and patience and I discovered in her a powerful listener. Even though she was a complete stranger to me, I felt connected from the first day we met. It was a non-judgmental, patient, and empathetic space where I could express, feel understood and validated. I didn’t receive solutions, advice, or answers. Instead there were thought provoking questions. Being understood immediately shifted my perspective. Fiona made me aware that answers and solutions to problems are in my hands.”

Management Assistant/Application Support Desk Analyst – Shell International

“Fiona was recommended to me by a friend at a crossroad moment of my life, when I knew I had to make a choice about my future, but I wasn’t willing to do so. She helped me in structuring and planning – the thought and decision process – in a way which made me feel safe and confident. During that process, she continuously posed challenging and testing questions so that I lead myself to the right answers. Making a decision as a result was easy and I felt confident about it. Fiona guided me in a very professional, calm and friendly manner creating an atmosphere of trust.”

CEO, Sales & Media Company

“As a somewhat hardened sceptic, I have historically questioned the benefit of career/life coaching – until the past year or so when my career took a significant unplanned change of direction. My time with Fiona has helped bring order to my thinking about how I ended up where I was, what I could have done differently, what I wanted for the future and how I intended to go about making it happen. Fiona is an eminently practical, supportive and insightful coach who helps you find personal clarity of thought, purpose and direction. I am a convert.”

Chief Finance & Commercial Director, Retail

"Fiona had a way of making me feel instantly comfortable and relaxed, to enable me to be open about my goals and challenges.  The exercises that we worked through together took me yet further -- moving from a linear storytelling of relevant issues, to seeking to more carefully analyse the myriad relationships both in my professional and personal life and how I might change my approaches to some of them.  I very much appreciated the practical outcomes from the approach that she takes to coaching."

"I often think about our sessions and I remain hugely grateful to you for the support you gave me!"

Head of Division, City Law Firm

"Just to let you know - I got the promotion to LD, confirmed last night. Apparently the committee commented on the clarity of my thinking and vision, which would never have been the case without your help. Your support over the past year or so has been invaluable. Thank you again for everything."

Legal Director, City Law Firm

"I wanted to tell you that I have accepted an offer at ‘X Co’ as HR Director J I’m delighted! … Thank you so much for the coaching as this really helped me to believe in me! Very powerful and a big contributor to giving me the boost to go for this next (and probably last) big step to realise my dream of the top job in HR."

Head of HR London, City Law Firm

"I thought that you would like to know that the "values" sheet worked a dream – we won the pitch (big relief)! You're also a genius on human nature – the adverse reaction we spoke about around promotions from a colleague was prompted by injured feelings!!   Who knew?  Clearly not me.  Good lesson."

Head of Division, City Law Firm

"I am very happy and honoured to finally inform you that… we did it!!! Thank you so much: it has been great to share with you an important part of the [partnership] process; your talent and knowledge have been inspirational throughout my preparation and I really hope this is just the start of the fun and, who knows, I might be needing your support again sometime in the future!"

Newly Promoted Partner (on hearing of his promotion), City Law Firm

"Fiona has a very relaxed and comfortable manner which instantly puts you at ease and at the same time is so professional and incisive that you also feel assured her coaching is going to pay great dividends for you which in my case it did. She has amazing clarity of thought and is an expert on the nuances of difficult and complicated relationships in the workplace, which enables her to ask the right questions which led me to the right answers. I faced a very challenging time when I first met Fiona but over the course of a few months we achieved all the goals we had set and she had helped me to look to the future with optimism and confidence which I did not have when we started. I believe she has a great approach to coaching."

Head of Department, City Law Firm

‘Fiona has been influential in the development of my management and leadership skills and capabilities. She has helped me assess and prioritise the increasing demands on my time and to better understand and navigate the sensitivities and complexities of dealing with peers and those that I report to, in a global business.

Fiona’s approach is empathetic and compassionate. Her experience and expertise means that she is listening and advising with the confidence of someone who has been in the same shoes.

Every session with Fiona has been immensely valuable and has forced me to take the time to reflect and to challenge some of my beliefs and behaviours, both on a professional and personal level.

My development to date would be deficient without her guidance and input, and I value the time we spent together.’
